Breast Reduction
Breast reduction is performed for both aesthetic and functional reasons. When the breast is disproportionately large for the body, complaints such as neck and back pain, persistent perspiration and skin irritation in the inframammary fold, and the marks and discomfort caused by bra straps on the shoulders can arise. This can significantly affect quality of daily life.
Immediately after breast reduction, many patients feel the relief of being freed from a physical load they have carried for years; a reduction in back and lower-back pain and greater freedom in choosing clothes are frequently reported.
Technically, the essential difference between a breast lift and a breast reduction is the amount of tissue removed during surgery. As with a lift, breast reduction generally leaves an “inverted T” scar.
Recovery After Surgery
- Return to daily life is generally possible within 2-3 days.
- A support bra is recommended for 2 weeks after surgery.
